hanuman's foster father was Vayu, that is why he is also known as Pavan Putra. Along with being divine since childhood, he had unlimited powers within him.
Once in his childhood, mistaking the Sun for a ripe fruit, he flew to eat it. At the same time, Indra tried to stop him by hitting him with a thunderbolt. Due to the attack of the thunderbolt, the child Hanuman's chin broke and he fell unconscious on the ground. Enraged by this incident, the Wind God stopped the effect of the Wind God, Indra finally withdrew the effect of the thunderbolt that he had used. Along with his , gods also gave many boons to the child Hanuman. However, the effect of the thunderbolt left an indelible mark on Hanumans chin.
Thereafter when Hanuman came to know about Surya's great knowledge, he enlarged his body and placed it in Surya to accept him as his disciple. Hut Surya rejected his request saying that since he always travels on his chariot as a part of his work, Hanuman will not be able to receive education effectively. Without getting deterred by Surya Dev's words, Hanuman enlarged his body further and placed one of his feet on the eastern end and the other on the western end and again requested Surya Dev and finally, pleased with Hanuman's persistence, Surya accepted him as his disciple.
Thereafter Hanuman travelled with Surya Dev and received his education. After completing his education, Hanuman requested Surya Dev to take Guru Dakshina but Surya Dev refused saying that 'the joy I have experienced in imparting education to a devoted disciple like you is no less than any Guru Dakshina'.
But on Hanuman's repeated request, Surya Dev gave Hanuman the permission to help Sugriva (Dharmpurta-Surya) as Guru Dakshina.
Surya Dev teaching Hanuman as per Hanuman's wish described Surya dev being eternal, eternal, indestructible and witness of karma.
Hanuman Ji was very naughty in his childhood, he used to trouble the sages and saints with this nature of his. often he used to snatch their worship material and may other things. Annoyed by his naughty nature, the sages gave him a small curse of forgetting his powers. Due to the effect of this curse, Hanuman would temporarily forget all his powers and would only remember his unlimited power when someone else would remind him. It is believed that if Hanuman had been free from the curse, the nature of the Ram-Ravana war in Ramayana would have been different. Perhaps he himself would have destroyed the entire Lanka include Ravana.
