To his surprise, as soon as the flame went out, moonlight flooded the entire room. He was astonished to realize that the full moon had been standing silently outside all along - but its light could not enter as long as the small lamp was burning.
That moment opened his eyes to a profound truth: the tiny lamp had been keeping the vast, bright moonlight at bay.
Just like that, in out lives too, we keep lighting small lamps of ego- pride, self-importance, arrogance. These petty lights, though insignificant, prevent the vast, divine light of God from entering our hearts.
Only when we let go of out ego, when we blow out the flame of self-centeredness, can we experience the presence of something greater.
Until the tongue finds silence, the mind will not find peace. And only a peaceful mind can truly feel the presence of the Divine.
