Once upon a time, king Bali was hiding in the form of a donkey in a secluded place to pass time. Devraj Indra was searching for his hiding. told him the importance of time. Along with that, he taught him the philosophy of truth.
then a divine woman came out of King bali's body. Seeing her, Indra asked- "Demon king! Who is this woman? Which power is she, Devi, Manushi or Asuri Shakti? King Bali said- Devraj! This Devi yourself."
On Indra's asking, that shakti said-"Devendra! Neither Demon King Bali nor you or any other Devgan know me. On earth, people call me by many names. Like- Shri, Lakshmi etc." Indra said- "Devi! You have been with king Bali for so long but what is the reason that you are leaving him and coming towards me?
Lakshmi said-"Devendra! No one can remove or disturb me from my place.| came and go to everyone according to time. I stay with everyone for the same time as per the effect of time. That is, | leave one and stay with another according to time."
Indra said-"Devi! Why don't you live with the demons?" Lakshmi said-"Devendra! I live where there is truth, work is done According to religion, fasting and charity work is done. But the demons are becoming corrupt. Earlier they could control their senses, were truthful, protected Brahmins, but now these qualities of theirs are getting destroyed.
Indra said, "Devi! Why don't you live with the demons?" Lakshmi said, "Devendra! | live only where there is truth, where work is done according to religion, where fasts and donations are given. But the demons are becoming corrupt. Earlier they could control their senses, were truthful, protected Brahmins, but now these qualities of theirs are getting destroyed.
They do not do penance of fasting; they have no relation left with yagya, havan, donation etc. Earlier they protected the sick, women, old people, weak people, respected their elders, forgave people, But now ego, attachment, greed, anger, laziness, indiscretion, lust etc. have made a place in their bodies. These people keep animals but do not feed them, they take out all their milk and the caves die crying out of hunger.
They are forgetting to raise their children. Brotherhood among them has ended. Looting, exploitation, murder, adultery, quarreling, destroying the chastity of women has become their why I have become averse to them.
The mind of the gods is now getting engrossed in religion. That is why I will leave them and live with the gods. These eight goddesses Shraddha, Asha, Kshama, Jaya, Shanti, Santati, Dhriti and Vijayti Will also live with me. Devendra! Now you must have known why I have left them. Along with that you must have also come to know about their demerits."
Then Indra bowed to Lakshmi and took her to heaven with respect.
